Flooding reported as Irma heads north into central U.S.

Flooding is reported in Jacksonville, Florida in the north-west corner of the state as the hurricane now tropical depression storm Irma heads into South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama.

Local officials in southern Florida - especially Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Naples - are beginning to assess the damage caused by the storm, with a current death toll of four.

Homeland Security Adviser Tom Bossert told reporters at the White House, with flooding in Jacksonville, the focus is still on rescues.

The Florida Keys - a string of islands leading to the southern-most point of the United States - took a direct hit and Homeland Security Adviser Tom Bossert says he might be wrong, but it will be weeks before those towns are habitable.
