Catalan leader insists referendum will go ahead despite police crackdown

The regional president of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont, has insisted the independence referendum planned for next Sunday will go ahead - despite police raids on local government offices and the detention of officials organizing the vote. 
Spain's constitutional court has imposed a fine of 12 thousand euros a day on anybody continuing to prepare the ballot, which it says is illegal.
