Despite criticism, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) defended its stance on Russia's doping case ahead of the World Athletics Championships. The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) extended suspension of Russia's team but let some athletes compete as neutrals. Moscow denounced IAAF's decision as "dead-end".
