US labels Iran rocket test launch a "provocation" and violation of UN resolutions

The US government is calling a rocket test launch conducted by Iran a  "provocation."

On Thursday Iranian state media reported the country had successfully tested a missile that can carry satellites into space.

The launch triggers fears that the same technology could be used to produce inter-continental ballistic missiles.

And speaking to reporters in Washington DC on Thursday, State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said the launch was a violation of the spirit of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal:

OUT: "....of the JCPOA."
