India's Supreme Court to decide if citizens have right to privacy

Nine senior judges of India's highest court will decide whether or not the right to privacy is a fundamental right that all citizens enjoy.

The hearing is tied to the ongoing appeal against the Indian government's mandatory biometric registration scheme.

Petitioners say they cannot be forced to give their fingerprints and iris scans to the government- calling this a breach of privacy. The government has alleged that the right to privacy is not a fundamental right.
