India's Green Tribunal bans dumping of waste into the Ganges

India's Green Tribunal has banned the dumping of waste near the river Ganges- a river that Hindus in India consider holy.

The order comes three years since Prime Minister Narendra Modi set up a separate government department to monitor the river's clean-up.

The Narendra Modi government had pledged $3 billion dollars for this project- $200 million of which has already been spent.

But environmental activists claim little has been done so far.
