One Indian court suspends cattle slaughter ban, another wants the cow declared India's national animal

The Madras High Court says the Indian government cannot decide what the the citizens of the country can or cannot eat.

This comes even as the high court of another Indian state has urged the federal government to declare the cow as the country's national animal.
