May seeks snap election on June 8th in fight over Brexit

British Prime minister  Theresa May has announced she is seeking  a snap election  to be held on June 8th.  

In the surprise announcement, Mrs May said she was seeking to strengthen her position as the government enters into complex Brexit negotiations to leave the European union. 

Speaking outside Downing Street, she repeated that the UK needed "strong and stable" leadership several times and said the other political parties were working against her plans for a successful Brexit.
