A letter from Scotland's first minister Nicola Sturgeon asking the British government for the go ahead to hold a second referendum on independence has been sent to Downing Street.
British Prime Minister Theresa May has already said a vote cannot come before the Brexit negotiations are finalized, however Scottish leader Nicola Sturgeon insists Scotland should have a say on its future. From London, Catherine Drew reports.
