The White House is accusing acting US attorney general Sally Yates of 'betrayal' as she's sacked for questioning the legality of Donald Trump's immigration restrictions.
Sally Yates had instructed justice department lawyers not to enforce the presidential order which temporarily bans nationals from seven Muslim-majority countries.
President Trump moved quickly to fire her after she wrote a letter saying she was 'not convinced' the move was lawful.
US correspondent Simon Marks says it's a stunning development.
