Trump continues victory tour in North Carolina

US President-Elect Donald Trump continues his thank-you tour on Tuesday with a post-election rally in Fayetteville, North Carolina where he made made more than a dozen campaign stops after winning the Republican nomination in June. 

The state was considered a key battleground state that Mr. Trump needed to win the presidency and he thanked the crowd for helping him accomplish that feat.  Speaking near Fort Bragg  -- the nation's biggest military base, the President Elect gave special to North Carolina's military.

Mr. Trump used the opportunity to introduce recently appointed Secretary of Defense James Mattis and make his appointment announcement official.

Recently appointed Secretary of Defense James Mattis joined Mr. Trump at the rally, to make his appointment official. The President elect told crows his extensive experience as Marine general makes him the best choice for the job.

Keeping the topic of the military central in his Tuesday remarks Mr. Trump said he promises to strengthen the armed forces, but only to engage them in conflict when it's in the "vital security interests" of the US.

In what some observers viewed as a jab at the Obama administration, Mr. Trump said, under him, America would stop interfering in other countries' governance.

Amid reported global concern from US allies that a Trump administration may mean a shift in America's foreign policy, the President Elect was open about the possibility of  "new friendships". Although he didn't name any country specifically, Mr. Trump said he welcomed the alliances of any country bent on defeating terrorism.

The President elect continued to push his "America First" rhetoric, applauding the recent deal with United Technologies to keep 1,000 jobs in Tennessee.

Mr. Trump mentioned the announcement -- made some  hours earlier at Trump Tower ---  that Japan's SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son plans to create invest some $50 BN into the US economy, creating 50,000 jobs.
