The European Union's chief negotiator for Brexit says the UK will have to reach a deal with the bloc by October 2018.
Michel Barnier told reporters in Brussels that time would be short for negotiations as the proposed deal will need to be ratified by the 27 remaining members of the European Union within the two year negotiating process.
He warned the UK would not be able to "cherry pick" what it wanted, such as access to the single market.
Earlier British Prime Minister Theresa May said she wanted an ambitious Brexit that was right for the UK. Mrs May says she intends to trigger Article 50, the mechanism to leave the EU by the end of March 2017.
Mr Barnier told reporters that time for talk would be short.
