The Syrian government has rejected a UN proposal to allow eastern Aleppo to remain under opposition control, if rebel fighters withdraw.
Foreign minister Walid al Muallem said the plan was a 'violation of national sovereignty' - it comes as the Security Council was told by a UN humanitarian chief that nearly a million people in Syria are now living under siege.
