Supplies blocked as North Dakota governor calls for evacuation at protest site

North Dakota officials plan to block the deliveries of supplies to the protest by the Standing Rock Sioux and their supporters over the final segment of a petroleum pipeline.

The protest has been going on for months, and North Dakota Governor Jack Dalrymple has called for an evacuation because the brutal plains winter is arriving.

The tribe fears the pipeline could contaminate their sources of clean drinking water.

U.S. President Barack Obama is being given updates, and White House spokesman Josh Earnest says, negotiation is the way to settle the disputes.
