US questions Israel's commitment to 2-state solution

The Obama administration is sharply questioning Israel's commitment to a 2-state solution with the Palestinians after Israel announced the construction of a new Jewish settlement on the far west bank, near the border with Jordan.

In a statement strongly condemning the decision to build the settlement, the U.S. says the the decision is contrary to Israel's national security interests and makes the possibility of a viable Palestinian state even less likely.

U.S. State Department deputy spokesman Mark Toner says the Obama Administration was taken particularly aback by this decision.
