The UK government is announcing plans to suspend parts of the European Convention on Human Rights during conflicts to protect British troops from legal claims.
UK Defence Secretary Michael Fallon says the current system has been 'abused', with litigation coming from claims under the ECHR.
Troops will still be subject to a prohibition on torture, UK criminal law, the Geneva Conventions, and some parts of the ECHR.
Political reporter Theo Usherwood is at the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham where the move is being unveiled.
