US states oppose Internet management change

Four American states have filed lawsuits to prevent the U.S. Commerce Department from relinquishing it's role in managing Internet directories.

The agency manages ICANN -  Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers  - which is the group which assigns locator addresses called DNS - Domain Name Systems and the more familiar addresses - dot-com  / dot-org / dot-gov .
