America's main presidential candidates have attacked one another in their much-awaited first debate.
Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton were neck-and-neck in the polls heading into the debate at Hofstra University near New York.
They wasted no time criticizing one another, with Mrs Clinton attacking Mr Trump's economic policies, including reducing taxes on the rich.

Mr Trump repeatedly blamed foreign countries for stealing American jobs, including Mexico and China. He pledged to rewrite trade deals, accusing Mrs Clinton of supporting agreements such as NAFTA and the Trans-Pacific Partnership until he forced her to change her mind because of growing public opposition to them.
