Russia and the United States are vying for influence in the Central Asian country of Uzbekistan, following the death of its longtime leader, Islam Karimov.
Russian president Vladimir Putin has flown to Uzbekistan to pay his respects to Karimov, who died without an obvious successor, but as our Washington correspondent John Clarke reports, the United States wants to maintain its ties with the strategically important country.
