MICRO FOCUS BUYS HP'S SOFTWARE ARM

UK tech company Micro Focus is buying the software business of Hewlett Packard in an $8.8bn deal.

It's part of Hewlett Packard's downsizing as chief executive Meg Whitman focuses on core business.

For Micro Focus it's the latest step in rapid growth which has seen it become one of the world's biggest tech firms.

Tom McPhail of Hargreaves Lansdown says it's a major deal for the industry.
