Hurricane Hermine moves closer to Florida

The coastline of the US state of Florida is preparing for a direct hit by Hurricane Hermine.

The storm is packing sustained winds of 75 miles per hour [120 kph] and is already bringing drenching rains to large parts of the state.

A state of emergency is in place as some residents are urged to evacuate ahead of landfall.

Correspondent Steve Mort in Florida says people living along the Gulf of Mexico are especially vulnerable.
