The U.S. military is confirming they conducted a precision airstrike against Abu Muhammad al-Adnani, who was thought to be one of the lead strategists for the Islamic State.
The Russians they were the ones responsible for his death after a Su-34 bomber raid on the village of Umm Hawsh, while the Americans say he was in al-Bab to the east.
Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook says there's no evidence to back up the Russian claims.
