Democrats end gun-control sit-in on Capitol Hill after more than 24 hours

Democrats in the US Congress have ended their sit-in on the floor of the House of Representatives after more than 24 hours.

They were protesting the Republicans' refusal to bring gun control legislation to the floor of House for a vote.

The sit-in brought anarchic scenes to the US Capitol, with a shouting match breaking out on Wednesday night as Republicans tried to move other legislation through the chamber.

The leader of the sit-in, Democratic Congressman John Lewis, announced its conclusion.
