US Congress makes progress on Zika funding

The U.S. Senate has approved an amendment to spend $1.1 billion to combat the Zika virus.

Their plans must be reconcilled with the very different approach by the U.S. House of Representatives, which wants to only spend $600 million and a similar amount must be cut elsewhere from U.S. government spending to cover the re-allocation.

White House Spokesman Josh Earnest says, zika is an emergency and the funds are critical.
