ICC tries alleged Islamist militant for destroying cultural heritage

An alleged Islamist militant from Mali has become the first person to appear at the International Criminal Court in the Hague charged with damaging humanity's cultural heritage.
Ahmad al-Faqi al-Mahdi is accused of masterminding the destruction of several mausoleums in Timbuktu during the conflict there in 2012.
