US worries about escalation in South China Sea

The U.S. is urging China to focus on peace and not escalation in the South China Sea.

Admiral Harry Harris of the U.S. Pacific Command told a Congressional panel, he believes China is trying to seek hegemony over the South China Sea.

The bipartisan think tank the Centers for Strategic and International Studies issued a report showing evidence that China is building radar sites on some of the disputed islands.

Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook says, this could be an escalation of tensions at a time when the focus should be peaceful resolution of dispute.
