The U.S. wants to urge all interested parties to head to Geneva to participate in talks aimed at starting a political process to resolve the nearly five year long Syrian crisis.
Opposition groups have said they might not show up unless the United Nations takes seriously their demands for a complete halt on attacks against civilians.
U.S. State Department deputy spokesman Mark Toner says Washington does take all concerns seriously but does not want any more preconditions to possibly delay a political solution.
