President Obama has told the American people that the United States
must not give in to fear in the wake of last week's mass shooting in
San Bernardino.
It's just the third time the President has spoken directly from the
Oval Office and vowed that groups like the self-proclaimed Islamic
state will be defeated.
In his address he called on the US Congress to do more by stopping
those on no-fly lists from purchasing weapons and once again called
for a ban on assault weapons.

The President reaffirmed his position that US forces on the ground in
Iraq and Syria would play into the hands of IS and that the US-led
coalition's airstrikes were having a significant effect.
And while he urged Muslim communities in the US and globally to do
more to clamp down on radicalization- he urged the American people to
remain united.
