CLIMATE TALKS OPEN IN PARIS

Climate talks have opened in Paris with dozens of world leaders in attendance.

The goal is to secure a long-term deal to cut global carbon emissions.

In the run-up to the COP21 summit, some developing countries insisted the targets expected to be agreed over the next two weeks could still see catastrophic damage.

Central to discussions is a potential deal to limit global warming to 2C above pre-industrial levels.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon called on the over 150 world leaders not to squander the opportunity to reach agreement.
