Syrian government troops backed by Russian air strikes launched ground assault operations in northern provinces of the country. NATO countries, who's ministers are meeting in Luxembourg, accuse Russia of bombing western-backed rebels fighting Bashar al-Assad's regime rather than the Islamic State targets. Russia's incursion has hampered Moscow relations with leading world and regional powers, including Istanbul, who threatened to revise Russia-Turkish energy ties over Syria escalation.
