Chinese artillery spotted on disputed islands

U.S. military officials confirm, they have spotted what they believe are two mobile artillery vehicles near the uninhabited Spratly Islands in the South China Sea.

Earlier, U.S. Defence Secretary Ashton Carter, who is in Singapore for the Shangri-La dialogues, said that international law was clear, China's sovereignty over the sand bars and tiny islands far from the coast line is not recognized.

In Washington, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said the U.S. position is that none of these islands should become military bases.
