UNSC calls for urgent access to the Yarmouk camp amid "inhumane conditions"

The UN Security Council is  demanding access to the Palestinian Yarmouk refugee camp in the Syrian capital Damascus.

Around 18 thousand refugees are in the camp are suffering conditions that one UN official described as "beyond inhumane."

The civilians are caught up in fighting  between Palestinian militiamen opposed to the Syrian government along with Free Syrian Army fighters, who are battling Islamic State militants.

The Palestinian UNWRA relief agency said thousands of people are trapped in their homes with no food, water or medicine.  The group is calling for the evacuation of the refugees.

Riyad Mansour, the Palestianian's Permanent Observer to the United Nations said action is needed urgently.
