Tony Blair wades into the UK's general election fight with an attack on the Conservatives of the EU referendum

Britain's former Prime Minister Tony Blair, who led Labour to victory three times in general elections, has waded into the current campaign with an attack on the Conservative's promise to hold a referendum on membership of the European Union.

The former leader has accused Prime Minister David Cameron of trading national interest for political advantage as the Conservatives try to win back voters who have defected to the anti-immigration, anti-Europe UKIP party.

The Conservatives have dismissed the attack, saying they are are putting the country first by seeking a vote.

Tony Blair praised Labour leader Ed Miliband for resisting calls for an EU referendum.  He said the prospect of the UK leaving Europe would cause chaos for British businesses
