Curfew comes into force in Baltimore, protestors still on streets

Police in Baltimore are trying to clear the streets of hundreds of protestors after an overnight curfew began in the city.

President Obama, in an appearance at the White House, said rioters who injured more than a dozen police officers in Baltimore on Monday night were "thugs" who should be brought to justice.

But he said police also had to engage in some "soul searching" after a series of incidents across the United States involving the violent deaths of minor offenders.

Congressman Elijah Cummings of Maryland, a Democrat, was on the streets of Baltimore as the curfew came into force.
