A former Taliban commander in Afghanistan who defected to the so-called Islamic State has been killed in a US airstrike, according to Afghan intelligence officials.
The US military hasn't confirmed the identities of those killed, but they are reported to include Mullah Abdul Rauf Khadim - who had been held by the Americans at Guantanamo Bay.
As Malcolm Brown reports, his switch in allegiance reflects the Islamic State's goal to establish itself in the region.
