Apple becomes first U.S. company worth over $700 billion

Apple has become the first ever U.S. company to close at above $700 billion in value.

The tech titan's shares rose almost 2% on Tuesday and ended the trading day at $122.02 each.

At more than $710 billion, Apple is worth nearly twice as much as the world's second most valuable company, Exxon Mobil.

Our technology correspondent Rebecca Bowring says the valuation is astronomical.
