Actress Geraldine McEwan dies in London, aged 82

The British actress Geraldine McEwan has died in London at the age of 82.


She suffered a stroke last year from which she never fully recovered.


She'll be best remembered by television audiences for playing Miss Marple, Agatha Christie's elderly sleuth, from 2004 until 2009.


Other TV successes included "Mapp and Lucia" and "Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit"


But she had an extensive stage career as well that spanned decades, and spent several seasons with the Royal Shakespeare Company and then Britain's Royal National Theatre.


Speaking in 2013, she remembered the moment Sir Lawrence Olivier invited her to join the National Theatre.

In 1967 she starred alongside Sir Laurence Olivier in the National Theatre's production of Strinberg's "Dance of Death"….and 2 years ago she looked back on the experience.
