Hundreds of American troops are to start training selected Syrian rebels at sites in the region.
The Pentagon has confirmed a report that 400 trainers and additional support personnel will take part in the programme.
It's part of a much-criticised American effort to bolster moderate forces in Syria which can fight the so-called Islamic State.
