US Secretary of State John Kerry is making an un-announced visit to Pakistan, after completing a day of talks with Indian government officials.
He touched down in Islamabad on Monday afternoon and will press Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to do more to crack down on extremist groups.
He'll then head to Paris for talks on terrorism with government officials there, amid criticism that the Obama administration failed to send sufficiently senior figures to France for the weekend marches following last week's attacks.
From London, Simon Marks reports.
