'500 EUROPEAN WOMEN' HAVE JOINED IS IN SYRIA AND IRAQ

Around 500 women from western Europe have traveled to Syria and Iraq to join the Islamic State, according to new research.

The Institute for Strategic Dialogue says air strikes in the region could create a generation of so-called 'black widows'.

It warns radicalised women aligned to the Islamic State could pose a threat to European countries on their return.

The ISD has put together the largest ever study of female jihadists.

Ross Frenett from the Institute for Strategic Dialogue says they are monitoring women online who express motivation to join IS and fight.
