AUSTRALIAN POLICE 'DISRUPT TERROR PLOT'

Counter-terror police in Sydney have arrested two men and say they have disrupted a potential terrorist cell.

One of the men has been charged with the possession of documents designed to facilitate a terrorist attack.

Australian police say the documents detailed potential government targets which could be attacked.

The other suspect had been charged with breaching a control order.

The arrests follow a cafe siege in Sydney last week which ended with two hostages and the hostage taker being killed.

Australian Federal Police Deputy Commissioner Michael Phelan says officers had to act.
