Most voters expected to sit out US midterm elections

Voting is underway in America's mid-term elections, with Republicans hopeful that they will capture control of the US Senate and be in a position to block President Obama's initiatives during his remaining two years in office.

One-third of the Senate and the entire House of Representatives are up-for-grabs.

And there are elections for the position of Governor in 36 of America's 50 states.

Turnout is expected to be low, with only one registered voter in three expected to participate.

Like many Americans, these New Yorkers say they're disillusioned with the choices on offer.
