EU FINANCE MINISTERS MEET ON UK BILL

European Union finance ministers are meeting in Brussels to discuss the UK's refusal to pay a £1.7bn (2bn euro) bill by December 1st.

Britain was handed the surcharge after a major review of the economic performance of EU member states since 1995.

The UK's economy was found to have performed better than previously thought and therefore owes extra.

But Downing Street says it will not be paying the bill by 1st December, and Chancellor George Osborne is promising to get a 'better deal' from Brussels.

EU correspondent Jack Parrock says Brussels will insist on the full amount being settled.
