CHINA WARNS HK PROTESTS ARE 'ILLEGAL'

China has warned that ongoing demonstrations in Hong Kong are 'illegal', raising fears of an imminent crackdown.

Pro-democracy campaigners are rallying against Beijing's plans to vet candidates for Hong Kong's leadership election.

But with US Secretary of State John Kerry calling for restraint, Beijing insists it is an 'internal affair' for China.

Protestors are threatening to occupy government buildings if their demands aren't met.

Chinese politics expert, Professor Chris Hughes from LSE, says neither side is backing down.
