Syria's foreign minister Walid al Moualem blasted the United States
"dual policy" of striking at some militants in Syria, while providing
others with training, weapons and money, when he addressed the United
Nations General Assembly Monday.
As U.S.-led airstrikes targeted villages controlled by Islamic
militants in eastern and northern Syria, al-Moallem said U.S. support
of rebel groups in that region creates a "fertile ground" for the
growth of extremism in that region.
The foreign minister said his country is also focused on defeating the
Islamic State group, which he said has been "unleashed like a monster"
against Iraq, Lebanon and Syria.

He said the United States should realize that rebel groups have the
potential to turn on their allies, and should not be built up as an
opposition force.
