NATO leaders are gathering in Newport, Wales for a two day meeting, with the actions of IS militants in Syria and Iraq thrust towards the top of the agenda following a new beheading video released earlier this week.
US President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron have said that the US and UK wont be "cowed by barbaric killers".
The two leaders released a joint statement ahead of the summit, calling for unity in targetting IS militants. Meanwhile there is confusion over the state of peace talks between pro-Russian rebels and Ukrainian forces in eastern Ukraine.
NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said the gathering came at a crucial time.
