The British government has announced new plans to devolve powers to the Scottish parliament, in the event that Scottish residents vote No to independence at the referendum on September 18th.
Opinion polls show both the Yes and No campaigns to independence are neck and neck. The British government has enlisted former Prime Minister Gordon Brown in a last-ditch campaign to save the union.
The former Labour leader unveiled proposals and a timetable to devolve further powers away from Westminster to the Scottish parliament.
Speaking at the first appearance of a ten day tour to get out the No vote, Mr Brown said there was no need to severe Scotland's historic union with Britain.
