US begins surveillance flights over Syria

The US has started surveillance flights over Syria.

President Barack Obama has authorised the missions in order to gain intelligence on the activities of Islamic State militants.

It could pave the way for US air strikes inside Syria, where the jihadist group controls vast swathes of territory.
