British Conservative MP defects to UKIP

Douglas Carswell, formerly a Member of Parliament of Britain's majority coalition Conservative Party has defected to right wing, anti-EU party UKIP.

Mr Carswell stepped down after accusing British Prime Minister David Cameron of not being 'serious' about European reform.

The Prime Minister has said he will call a referendum on Europe if his party wins next years general election, our UK Correspondent Natalie Powell reports…
