UN Security Council extends mandate of the security mission to Haiti

The United Nations Security Council has approved the extension of the
Multinational Security Support mission to Haiti by another year.
Last year, the council authorized the Kenyan-led international
security mission to assist the Caribbean country to help restore order
against the ongoing gang violence.
The United States requested the mission be changed to a full blown
Peacekeeping operation but China and Russia opposed the move.

Hurricane Helene death toll tops 100

More than 100 people are now confirmed dead across four US states
following Hurricane Helene.

The powerful storm ripped through Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas last week.

The police are stepping up their actions against the party leaders of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan

At least 89 killed in Hurricane Helene

At least 89 people [check for updates] have been killed in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, which made landfall on Thursday in Florida as a Category 4 Hurricane.

The storm has caused devastation across several states in the Southeast of the United States.

22 dead from Hurricane Helene

At least 22 people have died in the US' southeast following the
devastating effects of Hurricane Helene.

Some of the deaths were as a result of people becoming trapped in
flooded buildings.

It made landfall in Florida as a Category 4 hurricane before weakening
to a tropical storm as it pummeled Georgia and the Carolinas.

Heavy rain, life-threatening flash floods and destructive winds
battered the states.

North Carolina's governor Roy Cooper spoke about the size and strength
of the storm.
